Regulations establish very important issues related to the race. All participants should read it before registering, since registration implies the acceptance of everything contained in it.

Description of the event

ARTICLE 1. DEFINITION

ARTIEM Epic Camí de Cavalls 360º Menorca is a race divided in stages around the island of Menorca, with overnight stay at the end of each stage, and solo or two-member teams participation in three possible modalities: TrailRun Epic 360º, Experience 360º and MountainBike Epic 360º. It also offers the 1Day option, a day of racing in teams in any of its three modalities.

ARTICLE 2. RACES, MODALITIES AND DISTANCES

ARTIEM Epic Camí de Cavalls 360º Menorca offers six possible modalities of registration:

• TrailRun Epic 360º solo and team: three stages, 190 km in total and an elevation gain of 3.230 m.
• Experience 360º solo and team: three stages, 97 km in total and an elevation gain of 1.489 m.
• MountainBike Epic 360º solo and team: three stages of MTB race with a total distance of 190 km and an elevation gain of 3.280 m.
• 1Day TrailRun: a day of running with 56 km and 870 m of elevation gain.
• 1Day Experience: a day of running with 33 km and 631 m of elevation gain.
• 1Day MountainBike: a day of mountain biking with 58 km and 900 m of elevation gain.

ARTICLE 3. ROUTES

The ARTIEM Epic Camí de Cavalls 360º Menorca race runs through different types of roads and tracks:

• GR 223 Camí de Cavalls: Ii is an public path open to hikers, cyclists and horsemen, therefore, it’s required to respect the rest of the users at all times.
• Restricted access paths: the race route runs through some restricted access paths for which a special and exclusive permit has been obtained for this occasion.
• Roads and streets: some sections, both inside and outside the GR 223 Camí de Cavalls, are shared with road traffic, and therefore special care must be taken and traffic rules must be respected at all times.

ARTICLE 4. TECHNICAL DIFFICULTY

The track has a very high technical difficulty for cycling. An important part of the route is only rideable for very experienced, trained and skilled cyclists, while some small sections can not be rideable for any participant. Other sections are easier, with little or no technical difficulty.

On the other hand, in spite of having very rocky and abrupt sections, the route does not present such a high difficulty for the foot race.

ARTICLE 5. SIGNALING

Depending on the type of road, the signaling of the race will be as follows:

• Natural path sections of the GR 223: Camí de Cavalls milestones and GR markers.
• Urban and interurban sections (both in and out of the GR 223): ribbons, arrows or other elements the organization may consider necessary.
• Natural path sections out of the GR 223: ribbons, arrows or other elements the organization may consider necessary.

The signage on the sections of the Camí de Cavalls is sufficient, but there are times when it requires a high degree of attention. Therefore, it is highly recommended to follow the GPS tracks that will be emailed to participants a few hours before the race.

The organization may require the participant to deliver the device or original track of the activity to verify that the correct route has been followed at all times.

ARTICLE 6. PROVISIONING AND SEMI-SELF-SUFFICIENCY OF THE PARTICIPANTS

The race will be performed under semi-self-sufficiency conditions, that is, the organization will provide some provisioning points not sufficient to complete the race. The exact location of the provisioning points will be communicated in the weeks leading up to the race.

Each participant will be responsible for managing their own water and food needed to realize the route. Epic Camí de Cavalls 360º, specially the Epic distance, is an event that demands a high physical and mental training, a right management of your own strength, as well as water and food. In this respect, it is highly recommended to have previous experience in similar events.

ARTICLE 7. RESPECT FOR THE ENVIRONMENT AND ECO-RESPONSIBILITY

A key aspect of the race ARTIEM Epic Camí de Cavalls 360º Menorca is the respect for the environment. Participants must accept a Commitment to Good Environmental Practices document when registering. They have to avoid leaving trash along the route, using the trash bins available, respecting the flora and fauna and strictly following the path marked without using short-cuts. Participants are required to use a reusable glass or bottle, as glasses won’t be provided by on the provisioning spots.

Organization will, whenever possible, use reusable or recyclable material and perform separate collection (batteries, paper, plastic, etc.). The temporary signs used to mark the alternative routes will be collected during the same day. Immediately after the last participant the course cleaning will be checked.

The race crosses a multitude of natural areas, often fragile and many of them protected, among which the Natural Park of S’Albufera des Grau and the Natura 2000 Network stand out. Participants are subject, just like any other visitor, to the rules of these protected areas, as well as environmental rules that will be communicated days before the race.

ARTICLE 8. SOLIDARITY BETWEEN PARTICIPANTS

Solidarity, collaboration and respect amongst participants, as well as volunteers, sponsors, public and other possible users of the path where the race will take place are core elements of the ARTIEM Epic Camí de Cavalls 360º Menorca.

Conditions for admission of participants

ARTICLE 9. AGE

You can register to the event if you’re turning 18 years old during the year of the event.

Anyone under the age of 18 can register as long as the other member of the team is the father, mother and/or tutor, or a direct relative. In both cases, an authorization signed by the father, mother and/or tutor must be presented, stating that the minor is authorized to take part in the event; indicating who is going to participate with the minor and their relationship, and expressing the knowledge of the toughness and features of the race and the acceptance of any responsibility derived from participating.

ARTICLE 10. FEDERATIVE LICENSE FOR MOUNTAINBIKE MODALITY

All MountainBike participants are required to have the appropriate federative license.

Otherwise, the accident insurance must be contracted at the time of registration, or on October 8 at the latest (October 22 for 1Day).

Foreign participants holding a license must submit a certificate from their federation as late as October 8 (October 22 for 1Day) indicating that the race is covered by their license. Otherwise, they will have to contract the accident insurance, even if they have a federative license.

ARTICLE 11. STATEMENT OF LIABILITY

The organization won’t be responsible for any damage caused by an imprudence or negligence of the participants. Thus, all participants state that are perfectly prepared physically to take part in this race, and exclude the organization of this liability. The statement will be made when registering to the race with the document “Disclaimer and declaration of physical fitness”.

In addition, participants must sign a declaration in relation to Covid-19 to be allowed in the race.

ARTICLE 12. IMAGE RIGHTS

All participants refuse to use their image rights and authorise the organization and sponsors to use and publish freely photo or video images recorded during the days the event takes place.

Registration and cancellation terms

ARTICLE 13. REGISTRATION

Registration can be done through the organizer’s website, or through any other platform duly authorized for this matter. Registration is only valid after payment has been processed, the details provided when registering have been validated and all terms and conditions indicated in the present rules are complied with. Payment itself is not a guarantee of validation of the registration. You can check the status of your registration in the section “My entry” of camidecavalls360.com/epic website.

When registering as a team, participant 2 will have a maximum of one week to complete their registration from the date on which participant 1 registered.

ARTICLE 14. REGISTRATION DEADLINE

Registrations can be formalised until the 8th of October 2023, as long as the limit of participants described in these rules has not been reached.

ARTICLE 15. REGISTRATION AND EXTRAS FEES

Prices and different registration possibilities are indicated below.

• TrailRun Epic 360º: 229 € per person
• Experience 360º: 199 € per person
• MountainBike Epic 360º: 229 € per person
• 1Day TrailRun: 69 € per person
• 1Day Experience: 59 € per person
• 1Day MountainBike: 69 € per person

In the event that there is a free spot to register once the official registration period has ended, the price of the registration will have a supplement of 30 €. As for the extras, once the registration period is over, the extras will cost double the initial price.

ARTICLE 16. SOLO AND TEAM PARTICIPATION

Registration can be done solo or by teams of two. The teams can be mixed, or have two people from the same sex.

Participants registered as solo will be able to team up later with someone previously registered or with someone who registers in that moment, as long as there are spots available in the teams race. On the other hand, two participants registered as a team will be able to change to solo and participate individually, subject to availability of spots in the solo race. In both cases, it must be requested by email to epic@camidecavalls360.com no later than October 1. The deadline to confirm the change is October 8, 2023.

The 1Day races can only be done as a team.

Organization will not take care of creating teams, these have to be created by participants by common consent.

ARTICLE 17. LIMIT OF PARTICIPANTS

The maximum number of participants is 500, plus 50 spots reserved to the organization. They will be distributed as follows among the different modalities:

• The TrailRun and Experience races will be limited to a maximum of 300 participants altogether.
• The MountainBike races will be limited to a maximum of 200 participants altogether.

ARTICLE 18. REGISTRATION CANCELLATION AND REFUND

In case the registration is cancelled, the 80% of the amount payed for the 2022 edition entry will be reimbursed if it is cancelled until the 31st of August; the 50% if it’s cancelled between the 1st of September and the 22nd of October, or the 10% if it is cancelled between the 23rd of October and the 1st of November.

As for the amount of the extra services and accommodation, 80% of the amount will be refunded if the cancellation of these services occurs until the 22nd of October; from the 23rd of October the amount corresponding to any extra service or accommodation will not be refunded. The ferry reservation is subject to Baleària’s cancellation and change policy.

Participants will be able to transfer the registration to another person, as long as they communicate it by the 1st of October at the latest and subject to the payment of € 30 for management fees.

ARTICLE 19. CANCELLATION OF THE EVENT

If the event has to be cancelled due to a major cause that has nothing to do with the organization, a reimbursement for all the registrations will take place according to the reimbursement capacity of the organization after having faced non-recoverable expenses.

Without prejudice to the regulatory updates that occur at any given time, as well as the stipulations of Royal Decree-Law 11/2020, of 31 March, by which urgent complementary measures are adopted in the social and economic field to make compared to COVID-19.

The possibility of bad or very bad weather is part of the normal conditions in which the the race can be done, and it will not be cause of cancellation of the event, except if the conditions are very extreme and the integrity of the participants can be put at severe risk.

Development of the race

ARTICLE 20. RANKING

In case of participating in a team, both members of each team have to be together at the starting and ending points, as well as the control points. If the distance between the two members of a team is higher than 30 seconds at any point during the race, the team will be penalised with 60 minutes in the ranking. The second time this happens, the team will be disqualified. If both participants don’t arrive at the same time, but the time difference is less than 30 seconds, the time of the participant arriving last will be the one taken into account.

At the end of each stage a recognition of the leaders of the general ranking will be done.

General rankings will be calculated adding up the times of all the stages or timed sections. Final winners will be the ones who have needed less time to complete all three stages or timed sections of the route.

ARTICLE 21. CATEGORIES AND PRIZES

Rankings will be divided in the following categories for each race:

• TrailRun Epic 360º solo: Solo men, Solo women.
• TrailRun Epic 360º team: Mixed team, Men team, Women team.
• Experience 360º solo: Solo men, Solo women.
• Experience 360º team: Mixed team, Men team, Women team.
• MountainBike Epic 360º solo: Solo men, Solo women.
• MountainBike Epic 360º team: Mixed team, Men team, Women team.
• 1Day TrailRun: Mixed team, Men team, Women team.
• 1Day Experience: Mixed team, Men team, Women team.
• 1Day MountainBike: Mixed team, Men team, Women team.

The three best classified participants or teams in each category will receive a prize.

All participants who finish the event within the established limit of time will receive a recognition as “finishers”.

ARTICLE 22. NUMBERS

In order to pick up the number you will be required to show your ID card with photo.

The number has to be visible at all times. The runners have to wear it in the front, while the cyclists will use one in the handlebars and another one in their back.

ARTICLE 23. JURY, COMPLAINTS, PENALTIES AND DISQUALIFICATIONS

The organization will name a jury for the race. This will be responsible for the correct compliance of the regulations that rule this race, applying the sanctions and/or disqualifications needed according to the list of infractions (not limiting) that can be found below:

• Infringement | Penalty 1st time · 2nd time · Successive.

• Leaving the course | Depending on the gravity of the infringement, between 15 min and the disqualification from the race.
• Wearing the number hidden, bent or not clearly visible | Warning · 15 min · 1 hour.
• Being accompanied by someone not registered to the race | Warning · 1 hour · Disqualification from the race.
• Distance longer than 30 seconds between the members of the team | 1 hour · Disqualification from the stage · Disqualification from the race.
• Getting help or provisioning from third parties (including bars, restaurants and supermarkets) | 1 hour · Disqualification from the stage · Disqualification from the race.
• Using non-authorised transportation during the course of the stage | Disqualification from the race.
• Not marking with the bib number the wrappers of bars, gels and the like | 15 min · 1 hour · Disqualification from the stage.
• Leaving garbage both knowingly or unintentionally on the path | 1 hour · Disqualification from the stage · Disqualification from the race.
• Any behaviour or attitude that damages or harms the environment, including the rules listed in the Good environmental practices commitment | 1 hour · Disqualification from the stage · Disqualification from the race.
• Showing unsportsmanlike practice | Disqualification from the race.
• Carrying or using headphones |Warning · 1 hour · 1 hour.
• Missing any of the compulsory elements of the equipment | Disqualification from the stage.
• Not aiding a person experiencing difficulties (injured, exhausted, with hypothermia, etc.) | Disqualification from the race.
• Skipping a control point or not signing | Disqualification from the stage · Disqualification from the race.
• Any other offence to the rules or ethics of the race | Depending on the gravity of the infringement.

In addition, all the provisions of the regulations of the Federation of Cycling of the Balearic Islands for the MountainBike modality and of the Athletics Federation of the Balearic Islands for the TrailRun and Experience modalities may be applied.

Each one of these offences can be accumulated as many times as it is made, and will be penalized as indicated depending on its frequency.

Jury can decide to establish as many control points as it is deemed necessary for each stage, without previous notification and without informing previously about their location.

Members of the jury will also be responsible to evaluate possible complaints regarding the ranking, sanctions and/or disqualification applied. Complaints should be addressed to at least one member of the jury during the 30 minutes after the sanction is communicated.

ARTICLE 24. MINIMUM TIME

In the weeks prior to the race, the table of disqualification schedules for the different control points will be published. Participants arriving at a checkpoint later than the indicated time will be automatically disqualified from the stage.

Disqualified participants can freely decide -out of the race- to continue the stage, except the restricted access paths through which the race goes, and will do so under their full responsibility, as any other user of those paths. They must first inform the organization of the decision to continue and must deliver the number and chip. Disqualification by time will not prevent taking part in the start of the next stage and will not involve any kind of total or partial return of the registration, although it will imply disqualification from the general ranking.

ARTICLE 25. WITHDRAWAL

Participants can withdraw from the race voluntarily whenever they want, but they are required to inform the organization and to show up at the closest timekeeping control point to return their number and chip.

Besides, the organization can require a participant to abandon, or make him/her stop, if they consider that he/she is in a physical condition of risk.

Withdrawal from a stage won’t prevent the teams to participate in the following stage, although it does imply disqualification for the purposes of the general ranking. It won’t mean the reimbursement neither total nor partial of the registration fee.

ARTICLE 26. MANDATORY AND RECOMMENDED GEAR

During the course of the stages, all participants have to wear permanently the following compulsory material:

• Mobile phone (fully charged, switched on during all the race and with roaming enabled).
• Glass or bottle for the liquid with a total capacity of 1 L (due to eco-responsibility at the provisioning points no glasses nor bottles will be provided for liquids).
• GPS device with the latest version of the official race tracks.
• From 3:30 p.m. at Es Grau checkpoint (1st stage) and from 3:45 p.m. at Es Banyul (3rd stage): headlight in perfect working order -with the batteries fully charged- and rear red light (TrailRun Epic 360º modality).
• Bicycle spare parts and tools needed to solve the most common breakdowns en route (MountainBike Epic 360º modality).
• Bicycle in optimal condition of maintenance and operation. Riding with a bicycle that has a performance problem that could affect the safety of participants will not be allowed (MountainBike Epic 360º modality).
• Helmet (MountainBike Epic 360º modality).
• Any other item established by the organization in accordance with the weather forecast or any other circumstance.

Besides, it is recommended to evaluate the possibility of carrying the following elements:

• Some food, taking into account that it is done in terms of semi-self-sufficiency.
• Whistle (the bag’s whistle is valid if it works correctly).
• Emergency blanket.
• First-aid kit to cure small injuries.
• Cap.
• Sun cream.
• Anti-friction cream.
• Sunglasses.
• Cash.
• Mineral salts and/or electrolytes.
• Tubular.
• Hat.
• Rain jacket.

ARTICLE 27. BICYCLES AND MECHANICAL SELF-SUFFICIENCY

• No e-bikes will be allowed.
• Participants are solely responsible for the mechanical maintenance and repair of bicycles.
• The organization will offer mechanical assistance in an intermediate point of each stage. However, the organization is not responsible for any breakdown or malfunction that may occur and will not be responsible for any mechanical assistance outside of the planned assistance points.

ARTICLE 28. OBLIGATION TO ATTEND BRIEFING PRIOR TO EACH STAGE

In the event that there’s a briefing prior to each stage, the attendance at it will be mandatory for all participants, since essential information could be communicated for the proper development of the stages. At the entrance of the briefings there will be a signature check to assure attendance of all participants. The organization may prevent the departure in a stage to the participants who have not attended the corresponding biefing.

ARTICLE 29. ADVERSE METEOROLOGY

Due to the dates (in the middle of autumn), the possibility of bad or very bad weather is part of the normal conditions of the race, and the participants must be prepared to take part in the race in these conditions, both at equipment level and physically and mentally.

ARTICLE 30. MODIFICATION OF THE ROUTES AND RACE SCHEDULES

The organization can modify the route, the schedules and the times of passage by the control points until the same day of the race, or even during the course of the stage, based on the meteorological forecasts or any other conditioning of major cause non responsibility of the organization.

Organization and rules of the event

ARTICLE 31. ORGANIZATION

The ARTIEM Epic Camí de Cavalls 360º Menorca is a non-profit event organized by Club Esportiu Outroc club, produced by 40 Nord Outdoor S.L. The organizers reserve the right of modifying the current regulations if deemed necessary in order to ensure proper functioning of the event.

The ARTIEM Epic Camí de Cavalls 360º Menorca is a race authorized by the Federació d’Atletisme de les Illes Balears and by the Federació de Ciclisme de les Illes Balears federations.

ARTICLE 32. ACCEPTANCE OF THE REGULATIONS

All participants accept all the rules when registering, and are committed to follow these conscientiously.
